The Capitular Degrees

Royal Arch Masonry provides an opportunity for Master Masons desirous of further light to explore some of the deeper mysteries of the Craft. The four Capitular degrees of the Chapter are the Mark Master or Fourth Degree, the Past Master or Fifth Degree, the Most Excellent Master or Sixth Degree, and the Royal Arch Mason or Seventh Degree. No other degrees are so closely linked with the Blue Lodge or have so ancient and noble a history. Candidates take an active part in these degrees, which are truly some of the most profound and impressive in Freemasonry.

In the Royal Arch Degree itself, the Lost Word of a Master Mason is rediscovered in a beautiful ceremony that takes a group of candidates through the destruction of King Solomon's Temple, the seventy years spanning the Babylonian captivity, and the eventual return to the Holy Land to assist in the important and historic task of rebuilding the Temple of the Most High. As a member of his Blue Lodge, every Master Mason is also a York Rite Mason, but only as a Royal Arch Mason can he obtain the Lost Word for which a substitute is given him in the Third Degree. In England, where modern speculative Freemasonry originated, the Royal Arch is still an integral part of the Third Degree; in fact, a man is not considered a Master Mason until he receives it. We encourage you to seek the further Masonic light which only the Chapter can impart. Many of your Blue Lodge brethren can assure you that you will thoroughly enjoy the journey!
